The Drentsche Patrjishond is an old versatile hunting breed from the Dutch province of Drenthe with a fairly unique history. The Drenthe province where they developed allowed those who were not royalty to still hunt, giving room for the rise of a lovely hunting companion of fur and fowl who was also a valued playmate for the children, an excellent watch dog to alert to the presence of anyone new to the farm, and a dog who could help around the farm, even at times pulling carts.

The modern Drent is now a wonderfully versatile breed who is happy to participate in many different venues or to just act as an active family companion.
